Dr. Rani Ameena Bashir

Sr. Consultant - Paediatrics & Neonatology

Dr. Rani Bashir did her MBBS from Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram and MD Paediatrics from JIPMER, Puducherry. Simultaneously, she cleared DNB Paediatrics and was awarded MNAMS (Member of National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi). She subsequently obtained MRCPCH from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK and was later conferred FRCPCH. Her clinical experience is from Kuwait and Canada. In Kuwait, from Al Sabah Maternity Hospital and later Ahmadi Hospital under KOC, where she was licensed as Specialist in Paediatrics and Neonatology. In Canada, her fellowship training in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine was from two prestigious universities – University of British Columbia and University of Calgary. She worked in BC Children’s Hospital (Vancouver), Foothill’s Medical Centre (Calgary) and Alberta Children’s Hospital (Calgary). She was certified as ‘Subspecialist Affiliate in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine’ by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She is trained in Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography and Neonatal Cranial Ultrasound Scans. Her clinical expertise includes intensive care of neonates including extreme preterms, extremely low birth weight infants, high risk term infants including neonatal neurocritical care, targeted neonatal echocardiography, neurodevelopmental follow up of at risk neonates and well baby follow ups. She has a brilliant academic record with various University ranks and distinctions to her credit.

In addition, Dr. Rani Bashir completed another year of research fellowship from University of Calgary. She acquired ‘Graduate Diploma of Clinical Epidemiology’ from McMaster University, Canada. She won the Mallinckrodt Young Investigator Research Grant in 2015. She has several platform and poster presentations in international conferences to her credit, including the best oral presentation award in Canadian National Perinatal Research Meeting, 2015. Her research interests include neonatal neurocritical care, neonatal hemodynamics, neonatal outcomes and NICU quality improvement projects. She has authored several publications in peer reviewed journals, including book chaptersand serves as a reviewer in pubmed indexed journals and Paediatric Academic Societies annual meetings. She has served as faculty in various national and international conferences.

She is a nominated National Mentor of LaQSHYA Quality Improvement Program, which is a flagship program under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, through her association with Nationwide Quality of Care Network (NQOCN, India) and a faculty of ePOCQI (Point of Care Quality Improvement) Workshops in India. She is an internal auditor of NABH and also a life member of Indian Academy of Pediatrics, National Neonatology Forum, Newborn Brain Society and Indian Medical Association. Dr Rani Bashir was the Organising Chairperson of NEONEUROCRITICON 2020 – the first International Conference in India on Neonatal Neuromonitoring, Neuroimaging and Neuroprotection and the SCAN – Sonographic Clinical Assessment of Newborn Workshop in 2019 in Kochi, jointly organised with University of Calgary.
